Hi,

check out see.captusimago.com/portfolio

I'm running a test to see if purchasing Social Gallery and Justified Image Grid was worth it;)

Now, on my desktop things look great......

However, when I click an image on my iPhone screen, the Social Gallery popup doesn't show a photo and the formatting of the window is out of whack.

What's up? Did I do something wrong? Of so, what? And if not, when will this be fixed? ;)

Thx,

Patrick

I bought the Social Gallery plug-in after reading that it was compatible with the NextGen Gallery plug-in which I use on fortwilliammusicalsociety.co.uk.

On the desktop, it works fine.

On my mobile phone (Galaxy S2 / Android):
1. The images do not fit on the screen and it is impossible to scroll through the gallery.
2. The Facebook comments area is not visible.

I followed the installation instructions and am unable to get this to work satisfactorily with any of the NextGen gallery modes.

I have had to disable the Social Gallery plug-in. If it doesn't work on mobile platforms, why not make this obvious before people purchase it?

If the mobile compatibility is only being considered now as a future add-on, I will have no option but to seek a refund.

In the meantime, I am using the Photoswipe plug-in. This looks and works fine on tablets and smartphones - and it's free!

Hi guys,

Support for phones and devices within Social Gallery is only experimental, it does have swipe capacity but I agree it's not perfect yet and I do know that overall the mobile experience is poor. Social Gallery was never designed to deal with the problem of mobile though and isn't sold to be a "mobile lightbox" - if it were it'd be much better at mobile. If you check the feature request post you can see that the next version will likely have Mobile on/off support (I think I'll add it on top of whatever gets selected there) - so at least you'll be able to offer 1 lightbox for desktop and another for mobiles/devices.

To write one plugin which does both amazingly (including comments, social aspects, swipe AND kicks ass on the desktop is not a quick job) - hence Social Gallery exists as it is and a bespoke/specialised device/mobile "addon" will be available at a later point. This is just a natural part of developing and is unavoidable I am afraid. I'm doing my best to provide you with a decent social lightbox, which 700+ customers have purchased and nearly all love - a far better solution for mobile is coming, and it should be worth the wait.

With regards nextgen - we have many users successfully using NextGen + Social Gallery, I'll happily advise you on a more specific CSS selector which will select only the images your after if you share your url.

@captusimago - I can see you have Social Gallery working now by the looks of your homepage, is there anything else I can help with?

@Niall - Looking at fortwilliammuscialsociety I would expect the following to work for your setup:

1.) Choose "Specific CSS Selector" from the first drop down menu in the settings
2.) Put ".ngg-gallery-thumbnail a:has(img)" in the second box

Please do let me know if there's anything else guys.

Hi Woody,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I will try your suggestion later, but at the moment I'm more inclined to wait for the next release of SG, where mobile functionality is better integrated into the plug-in.

If it's possible, I think my preference would be to have the social network functions available on the desktop, and a simple image display with swipe on mobile screens, since there is much less space available and people might be less inclined to write comments.

Many thanks for your feedback. Keep up the great work!

Hi Niall,

Thanks for your input - I think that what I'd like to do is exactly what you've said, but with added goodness.

Hopefully I'll get to work on this soon so I can get something out for you all!

Cheers
